Sustainability at Beer No Evil
We've always wanted Beer No Evil to be as ethical and environmentally conscious as possible. It’s part of who we are — and it’s there in the name.
Since opening in October 2018, we’ve made choices that help us tread a little lighter, and we’re always looking for ways to do more. Here’s where we’re at, and what we’re doing next.
Recycle
- Packaging reuse: We reuse all the packaging we receive from breweries and suppliers and we encourage our customers to do the same.
- KeyKegs: These can’t go in our normal commercial recycling, so we pay to have them returned to the manufacturer, where they’re recycled into new kegs.
- Plastic cups (only when necessary): For external events, if we need to use plastic cups at external events, they’re made from 100% recycled and fully recyclable plastic.
- Drinks on the go: If you’re heading to the beach or park with takeaway drinks, bring your empties back to us — we’ll take care of the recycling.
- Toilet paper: We’ve always used Who Gives A Crap toilet paper. It’s made from sustainable bamboo, and they donate 50% of profits to help improve sanitation globally.
Reduce
- Paper bags only: We’ve always used paper bags — no plastic alternatives here.
- Flagon Fillers: Our refillable glass flagons give you the proper draft beer experience at home, with no single-use containers. Plus, they keep your beer fresher for longer.
- Wine refills: Just like our flagon fillers, our wine refills cut down on waste and keeps things affordable.
- Plastic-free snacks: Since March 2025, we’ve been serving Spudos crisps in biodegradable paper bags. You choose your flavour, give them a shake, and enjoy. We’ve upgraded our nuts too, and we’re continuing to grow our plastic-free snack selection.
- Energy supply: When our contract is up for renewal, we’ll be switching to a fully renewable energy supplier.
- Lighting: All our lights are already LED, and as they need replacing, we’re upgrading to even more efficient versions.
- Cleaning products: We've always used eco-friendly cleaners, and we’re now moving towards concentrated or powder forms to reduce packaging and shipping weight.
Reuse
- Flagon Fillers: Our reusable flagons are at the heart of what we do. Refill, reuse, repeat.
- Wine refills: Bring your bottle back and we’ll top it up — simple as that.
Reusing packaging: Any packaging that comes through our doors gets reused wherever possible. - Packaging reuse: We reuse all the packaging we receive from breweries and suppliers and we encourage our customers to do the same.
And a few more things:
- Our loo in Uganda: We’re proud that our toilet is twinned with one in Uganda, helping to fund better sanitation.
- Snacks: We’re always looking for more plastic-free, sustainable snack options. If you know any, let us know.
We know there’s always more to do. If you’ve got suggestions or want to chat about what we’re working on, come and see us. We love to hear from you.
