So, this is it. We've got the keys and we’ve also had planning approved so we can be an actual bottle shop and tap room. We’re based at 82 Brighton Road, not far from Chipwick and Cocks Kitchen, a stones throw from the beach and just a short skip from Splashpoint. It’s dead exciting and we can’t wait to open the doors.
We’re Beer No Evil, and I’m Gareth. I’ve been planning on doing something beer related and following my dreams for the past five years [I’ll tell you in another blog how this beery obsession started]. The beery dream has taken on many guises and developed over time, until about 18 months ago, shortly after moving to Worthing, the plan started taking shape to open a bottle shop and tap room.
After months of hunting for a suitable location, a flexible understanding landlord, lots of backwards and forwards and a few hurdles, or maybe steeplechase jumps over muddy water, along the way, I quit my job to concentrate on getting things started and blimey, who’d have thunk it but work started last week. Here you can see how we're getting on, in just over a week.
My wife Gemma and I are setting up the shop together but it’ll be me running things, you’ll be sure to see Gemma around and about adding her magic. We’ll be specialising in….er…you might have guessed, beer! Although we plan to offer wine and cider too, it’ll be limited, but delicious none the less.
We’ll be there to answer questions and plan on doing lots of beery events in the future with some of our favourite breweries, both local and national. More on the types of beer we’ll be serving in a later blog.
We see Beer No Evil as a kind of a coffee shop where you buy beer instead of coffee, it’ll be chilled and relaxed and you’ll be encouraged to try lots of different beers in smaller measures rather than get tanked up on pints.
Keep on keeping on…
