New England to Yorkshire - A Transatlantic Journey Through Beer
With The Brewery of St Mars of the Desert
We're pleased to be hosting a very special evening with Sheffield's St Mars of The Desert who are heading south to join us in person at Beer No Evil HQ.
We've long been fans of St Mars of the Desert and were introduced to them by mutual friends Abyss. Their beers are a journey unto themselves, using traditional methods and techniques to create their own twists on old classics and new styles. We'll be trying five of their beers and they'll be sharing the transatlantic stories behind them and their love of those particular styles.
Owners Martha and Dann with special guest, The Grimbold will be joining us for the evening. We'll be discussing their journey through beer from Brewing in New England to settling in Yorkshire.
Martha is a PHD Microbiologist from North Yorkshire, is trained in brewing and has been working in breweries since 2008. As well as brewing and many other duties she runs the canning at SMOD, and have you seen those labels?
Dann began brewing professionally in 1992 and has worked in at least ten breweries in both the UK and Boston (New England) over those years. He witnessed the birth of a lot of what we call “craft beer” today firsthand and was arguably the first US craft brewer making sour wood-aged beers in the mid 1990’s.
The Grimbold is a small dog, and arguably the brains behind the brewery.
Tickets are £21.95 per person including beers and nibbles.
